DENTAL HYGIENE CLEANINGS

Teeth cleaning, also known as scaling or root planning is a procedure that involves the removal of plaque (soft deposits/bacteria) and tartar, also known as calculus (hard deposits /bacteria) from the surfaces of teeth above and below the gum line.

Our gums are not 100% attached to the teeth. There is a gap in between teeth and gums where the bacteria is getting trapped, causing gums to inflame and if left untreated for a long time causes bone (the supporting system of teeth) to disintegrate. Dental cleanings are crucial in maintaining healthy gums and bone.

The intervals for re-care appointments vary from case to case, depending on the state of health of the gums. Normally, we’ll see children every 6 months and adults every 3,4,6,9 months intervals, depending on the depths of the gums. The healthy gums have measurements of 0-3 mm. Unhealthy gums are considered to have measurements of 4 mm. and up. Gums are measured every year to make sure that if there are any negative changes to make appropriate treatment plan to improve the current situation.

You should always ask your hygienist: “How are my gums doing compare to last visit?"

Your hygienist will be able to propose a suitable home care based on the health of your gums. The shelves on the market are overwhelming with many oral care products. You must know what is beneficial to you.
